Top 5 Summer 2010 / 2011 EDM Festivals in Australia

Epic shot of Stereosonic Festival 2010, with Axwell's heart on the main stage
With a house scene that is just barely brewing beneath the surface, Australia is right now one of the real hotspots for house music. Not only is there amazing talent flowing from the country, but also the audience for house music is growing rapidly as more and more festivals pop up every year. You guys all know the biggest names from Australia, Dirty South and TV Rock; these guys are really setting the bar for Australia right now and I’m expecting Australia to be one of the biggest house countries in the next few years.
Australian Summer EDM Festival Season is coming! Some of you, like me, probably forgot Australia was in the Southern Hemisphere (where it’s going to be Summer haha.) So yeah out come the hot Australian girls in bikinis while we at HME are stuck in the miserable cold for a dreadful 6 or so months.

The coolest part about some of these Australian festivals, which sets them completely apart from festivals in the rest of the world is the fact that they are basically “touring festivals”. Australia, as you know, is broken into 6 different states. These festivals, rather than being in one location once a year like in the US and most of Europe, make stops at the major cities along the southern coast. Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Perth are some of the major stops that these festivals make.

In a few weeks, festival season in Australia begins, starting with Stereosonic. If you live in or are visiting Australia between November and March, you must get your ass to some of these festivals. With the lineups like these, you are bound to get drunk and have an insane time with some Ozzy festival creatures! Check out our Top 5 Summer 2010/11 EDM Festivals in Australia!

Whittlesea's Angie Montana will be a judge at the Miss Universe Australia heats at Epping Plaza.
THE hunt for Miss Universe Australia 2011 begins at Epping Plaza next month.
Whittlesea’s own Angie Montana (pictured), who just missed out on a top five placing at the national finals earlier this year, will be one of the judges at the Victorian preliminary heats and final in Epping.
She said she would be looking for contestants with a “certain sparkle”.
“If anyone’s doubting themselves they should believe in themselves because that’s what Miss Universe is all about,” Miss Montana said.
“Miss Universe is an opportunity to showcase what your strengths are.”
Event co-ordinator Paris Ogden said the next Jennifer Hawkins or Rachael Finch could be found right here in Whittlesea and urged local women to enter.
Ms Ogden said the Miss Universe pageant provided a platform for Australia’s most beautiful, talented, educated and confident young women to compete for the Miss Universe Australia Crown.
She said it was an opportunity to represent Australia at NBC and Donald Trump’s International Miss Universe Pageant next year.
Heat 1 will begin at 3.30pm on Friday, October 22, at Epping Plaza and Heat 2 will follow at 7pm.
The final will be held on Saturday, October 23, from 2pm.
Online applications are available at missuniverse australia.com.au.
Miss Universe Australia 2011 preliminaries are from October to May 2011 with the National Final Crowning Ceremony in June.

Communications student crowned Miss Australia

She's blonde, beautiful and heading to Brazil to represent the nation in the Miss Universe pageant.
Scherri-Lee Biggs was the clear crowd favourite among the 30 finalists at the Miss Universe Australia 2011 pageant in Melbourne last night.
The 20-year-old South African-born beauty took the crown from out-going queen Jesinta Campbell, wowing the audience during the bikini parade before donning a low-cut silver sequin evening gown, featuring a provocative split to the thigh.

When it came to question time, Ms Biggs, asked to share her opinion on controversial child beauty pageants, said children should be given the choice, rather than be forced into competing by "pushy" parents.
"Children should be children," she replied.
She credited her performance to a breakfast of bacon, hashbrowns and toast.

"I have to keep my energy up!" Ms Biggs told reporters.
Supported by her parents, sisters and boyfriend, the Perth model and communications student said she wanted to use the Miss Australia title to provide guidance and confidence to young girls.
"I don't think I'm the most confident woman in the world but I think that young girls these days definitely need a little bit of guidance," she said.

Miss Korea 2011 Crowned

Miss Korea 2011 Lee Seong Hye
by Christine Kim
Parsons Design student Lee Seong Hye was crowned Miss Korea 2011 on Wednesday at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul.
Wearing the envied crown that bestows the unofficial title of “the most beautiful woman in Korea,” the 22-year-old glowed as she stood on stage.
“I would like to attribute this honor to all those who have prayed for me and my loving family,” Lee said, according to Xinhua. “As the winner of Miss Korea, I’ll do my best to represent South Korea and show the country’s beauty and national prestige in the next one year.”
The second runner-up, Korean American Soo Jung “Crystal” Kim, came close to winning but fell short in the end. The 17-year-old from Southern California will attend Northwestern University as a freshman this fall and intends to major in economics.
Embodying grace and intelligence, both Lee and Kim show that they are more than just girls with pretty faces.
Lee will represent South Korea at Miss World 2011 in November and at the Miss Universe competition in 2012.
