What is National Cleavage Day?

In case you haven't heard, it's National Cleavage Day. The problem, however, is that no one really seems to know what that means.cleavage500.jpg
According to Wikipedia, the day is an annual celebration held in March or April sponsored by bra maker Wonderbra to celebrate their "uplifting" cause. Wonderbra says it highlights women's independence and power in all facets of their lives, from relationships to careers.
Google, however, yields a mish-mash of links from international news sources that highlight women who have what some have called "good cleavage." For example, in England, Holly Willoughby, a morning TV presenter, was bestowed the honor of "Best Celebrity Cleavage" by The Daily Mail. The Mail says her breasts were judged on their perkiness, how close they sit together and their size.
Actress Scarlett Johansson was named No. 2 in the cleavage contest, while Beyonce came in third.
Also in London, it appears an assortment of scantily-clad women took to the street wearing little more than their underwear to celebrate the day. It seems to have been little more than an excuse for a nearly naked parade.
OK! Magazine reports that Kim Kardashian celebrates the day, but fails to explain how the reality star does so.
And another UK publication, The Sun, came up with the clever line, "The Sun celebrates National Cleavage Day with some priceless treasure chests."
Many criticize the day, and the best compilation of that criticism can be found, again, at Wikipedia, which cites some who say the day is merely a marketing ploy that uses people's bodies and demeans women.
